Oh Oat

Oh Oat produces fresh, clean-label oat milk in Woodstock, Cape Town. It’s not only better for you, it’s better for the planet.

We began Oh Oat to enact positive change. Oat Milk is the easiest way to improve your health, the health of the planet, and to reduce animal suffering. Our oat milk journey started in September 2018 and it took us almost two-years to launch. We conducted thousands of experiments and had countless late nights to perfect the drink we wanted to make. We wear those two-years as a badge of honour and we hope they inspire you to keep working towards your dream and never give up on it.

We use a lot of oats in the production of our milk and have one of the highest oat content in our final product – 18% to be precise. We focused on creating a process which eliminated the need for gums, additives, or preservatives. Our milk is truly clean label, and contains only five ingredients. Our factory aspires to be zero-waste and we recollect and filter water where possible. In addition, we use by-products of our production process to create food & other materials.

We really dislike plastic. So we had to re-think milk packaging so that plastic plays no part. Recycling is great. Re-using is better. We give a second, third and fourth life to perfectly good wine bottles headed for recycling plants. Can a wine bottle be used as a oat milk bottle? We think so. Every day thousands of perfectly good wine bottles are thrown out in Cape Town, so we decided to collect a few. We believe the packaging of a product is not separate from the product itself. So, when we considered the sustainability of our product, we had to consider the environmental impact of our packaging. This is what we came up with.
