Honeywood Farm

Honeywood Farm has been in the Moodie family since 1817 and borders the wild and wonderful Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve up against the Langeberg Mountains. It is a nature lover’s paradise and offers hiking, mountain biking, birding, horse riding, and swimming in rivers and pools all in a peaceful and secure environment. Your hosts John and Miranda Moodie look forward to welcoming you to Honeywood Farm and sharing this splendid inheritance with you. The farm offers a genuine eco-experience with comfortable accommodation and opportunities for adventure tourism, birding, extreme biodiversity in the surrounding environment and a secure, safe area of the country. The farm is a member of the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy, which contains large areas of mountain fynbos, Knysna type forest and some rare examples of unspoilt Renosterveld or Themeda grassland. Beyond the Nature Reserve lies the Boosmansbos wilderness area; one is of the best protected areas in the country which is also a World Heritage Site.

Honeywood is a working honey farm – producing delicious fynbos honey which is available for guests and retailers from the farm. All honey produced is from John’s bees and is either raw (unheated) or warmed to sell as choice grade honey. The farm also has cattle and a few sheep, with experimental plantings of olives and honeybush tea. We offer a Two Day Short Beekeeping Course. Courses on beekeeping are offered on the farm on demand – usually in Winter / early Spring. Courses include basics of beekeeping, pollination and queen rearing. The venue is ideal for interested beekeepers and artists as partners are welcome to share the experience and enjoy the beautiful surroundings while courses are in progress. Beekeeping in South Africa, notes and books will be provided for reference purposes. Food and accommodation are provided at Honeywood Farm. The course will be run in English – Afrikaans explanations and discussion welcome.

Some of the products we offer include: Raw and choice grade honey in seasonal flavours; seasonal whole fruit jams jellies and compotes; lemon granadilla or orange curds; savoury treats for cold cuts or cheese platters; sweet mustard; curried pickled or slaphakskeentjie onions; gherkins in buchuu pickle; sundried tomatoes and olives in Italian herbs.
