Back Area Gardens

We are organic vegetable micro- farmers situated in Oude Molen Eco Village, Pinelands. Our intention is simple: to bring fresh organic food to the suburbs as conveniently as possible. Most our vegetables and herbs are grown organically right here at Oude Molen and the rest of our organic produce is brought to you from small independent farmers from around the Western Cape. This ranges from organic dairy products, flour, free range poultry, fresh, pasture- reared meats, coffee and teas to a variety of condiments. Back Area Gardens was started in 2009 by Margot Neser and her trusty assistant David Koko.  Babalo Koko & Bandile, David’s assistants, joined four years later. Together our capacity to produce has increased and we now have seasonal vegetables available throughout the year.  The rest of our organic produce is brought in so as to give our customers opportunity to have a holistic approach to eating organically. In March 2016, Lynette Van Straten joined us to run our new, expanded Shop, Back Area Gardens Deli, so that we ‘gardeners’ could get back to our job of growing the veggies. In June 2018 we opened the Deli Cafe in the garden section outside the Deli, serving tea, coffee, delicious organic meals and treats. Chef Anwah runs the kitchen and along with his trustworthy assistant Leah, is inspired daily to create delicious meals from the produce available in the shop.  Nicholas and Wayne are our servers and baristas.  Together they produce and serve the meals that tantalize the taste buds. www.backareagardens.co.za
