4WKS

4WKS

4WKS is made up of brothers and first-cousins — Daniel Pretorius, Oliver Pretorius and Lulu Larché who are self-confessed coffee snobs who also love the planet!

While the team at 4WKS (pronounced “4 weeks”) recognises the brilliance of Nespresso® machines and the need for great coffee at the push of a button, they are also acutely aware of two things:

 – firstly, the environmental harm of plastic and aluminium single-use coffee capsules and,

 – secondly, the quality of the coffee inside them.

In addition to their waste, 4WKS challenges why pods are largely imported, mass-produced and have a shelf-life of 18 months — when they believe the best coffee should be consumed fresh. They raise the question of why can’t we all enjoy freshly-roasted coffee from our favourite local roasters at the push of a button, in a way that does not only do no harm but rather, more good?

This is why it is their mission is to shift Coffee, Habits and Culture — 4WKS at a time. 4WKS pods changes and challenges the perception of how pods can be enjoyed. They introduce a new way to enjoy and explore local speciality coffee, in a way that is accessible, convenient and kind to the planet.

The 4WKS pod (shell, lid, coffee) is 100% compostable. The pod will break down to compost within 12WKS when disposed of in an industrial composting facility, or within 24WKS in a home compost heap. 4WKS has also initiated a Compost Collection network in the Western Cape whereby they collect used pods every 4WKS and compost them!
