Grounded Ingredients

After eight years working to help farmers transition to more regenerative practices, we know firsthand that accessing fair markets is one of the biggest challenges for small producers – and also one of the biggest opportunities for positive intervention.

We noticed two things that made us want to try out Grounded Ingredients, and a new way of sourcing natural goods. First, as things stand, value chains serve big-volume buyers. Because scale and uniformity are the priority in this system, crops from many growers are processed and combined to create consistent products – losing their origin stories and differentiating properties along the way. The final product is no longer traceable, and this system provides little incentive to producers putting in the extra effort to use regenerative methods. Second, we found that buyers and brands are struggling to access the traceable, regenerative ingredients they’re looking for.

We want to bridge this gap: producers invested in regenerative practices should be paid fairly for their goods, and buyers seeking regenerative ingredients should be able to access them at the volumes they need. Grounded Ingredients is a marketplace that serves both.
