Willowdale Honey House

At Honey House, we work to protect our local pollinators through colony growth and ethical beekeeping practices.

Food is precious and during times of crisis, we appreciate even more what it takes to feed our planet. Every step of the way there are heroes working tirelessly so that we can eat, but there are other unsung heroes. Just think that most of the world’s food crops depend on bees and other pollinators to exist. These essential crops like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds form an integral part of our everyday diet. As pollinators, bees play a vital role in our environment. Without them our gardens wouldn’t flourish, plant diversity would decrease and world hunger would rise. Yet our tiny heroes are under threat worldwide mainly from intensive farming, habitat loss, improper use of pesticides, and climate change.

Here at Willowdale Farm, situated in the heart of the Overberg, we care for honeybees on behalf of many incredible people. We are playing an active part in helping reverse the decline of the honeybee whilst showcasing the health and taste benefits of raw, South African, artisan honey. Our #honeybeeheroes adopt-a-beehive program offers people from around the world an opportunity to directly help honeybees without the challenges of operating their own beehives. It’s a simple, hands-off way to aid nature’s pollination process whilst giving you the satisfaction of doing your part to help the environment.
